Its hard to believe that something so simple as a clock can set the mood for begining a day. If you see clocks as utilitarian only, then one of the millions of other clocks out there will do. The fascinating change of numbers in the lamps literally hypnotized me. The clock has taken its place on the shelf in the living room and at dusk illuminates the room with a pleasant warm light of lamps.

HOW A LAWYER SELLS SOVIET RETRO CLOCKS IN THE USA
Lawyer Vadim Antonov gave a second life to Soviet indicator lamps: he began producing retro clocks on their basis. Now his products under the Past Indicator brand are sold in Europe and the United States, with 2017 revenues of 20.6 million rubles.
Vadim Antonov, a 29-year-old lawyer, found the idea for the business in his grandfather's attic. A former radioelectronics technician, 80-year-old Vladimir Antonov kept indicator lamps there for many years, which in Soviet times were used in the manufacture of calculators, radios and other equipment, where there is a panel with numerical symbols. "To my grandfather, they were something ordinary, almost trash, but I had a crush on them," Antonov recalls. He combined them with modern electronics and set up the production of tube clocks.
Foreign bloggers were interested in the Russian invention, and now half of Past Indicator's orders come from abroad. In 2017, the tube business brought Antonov 7 million rubles in net profit.
Vadim Antonov began his career as a lawyer at the Ministry of Finance, where he got a job by acquaintance immediately after graduating from the law department of Moscow State University. But six months later he realized that he did not want to be a lawyer - "boring and unpromising" - and decided to go into business. On the advice of his mother, Antonov opened an online children's clothing store Bambinissimo in 2012. "It was a strange decision for a 23-year-old guy," admits the entrepreneur. - I understood nothing about children or selling clothes, but I did not give up: I handed out flyers at the entrance to the circus, gave balloons to children, participated in profile events. Four months later, the fervor faded: Antonov somehow recouped his small investment and closed the company.
He switched from being a lawyer at the Ministry of Finance to a similar position at the United Metallurgical Company, but he never gave up the idea of opening something of his own. The new business idea was sparked by a childhood memory. The production of nixie tubes stopped in 1993 so the company only produces a limited number of clocks each month (100). ИЛИ КАК ПРОДАТЬ УСТАРЕВШУЮ ТЕХНИКУ
Вадим Антонов полдетства провел на чердаке с дедушкой за радиожурналами и сбором микросхем. Закончив юрфак МГУ и поработав по специальности несколько лет, он понял, что хотел бы заняться собственным делом. Размышляя, чем бы, он вспомнил про ламповые часы на чердаке деда. Они были популярны в 60-х. Из специальной подставки торчали шесть лампочек, они показывали время по принципу электронных часов. Одного вечера Вадиму хватило, чтобы узнать о часах все. Оказалось, их никогда не производили серийно, люди собирали конечный вариант самостоятельно из микросхем и ламп. Лампы для таких часов перестали выпускать еще в 1993 году.
Вадим выставил на продажу в соцсети картинку еще не собранных часов – и покупатель нашелся. Тогда Вадим решил развивать дело: стал искать на старых заводах и рынках оставшиеся лампочки, нашел на форуме радиолюбителей монтажника и нанял его собирать микросхемы. И вот уже пятые год часы из прошлого продаются под брендом Past Indicator. Часы оказывают завораживающий эффект на покупателя, отмечает основатель проекта Вадим Антонов:
«Все дело в лампочках: внутри них десять слоев цифр из тонкого металла. Поэтому когда цифра меняется, один слой гаснет, а другой загорается. Это происходит мгновенно и выглядит довольно зрелищно».
Основатель усовершенствовал часы: изменил схему сборки и придумал, как продлить жизнь лампам. Вместе с партнером он открыл шоурум в центре Москвы и продает раритетные изделия теперь там. Как оказалось, не все знакомы с предметами прошлого, многие из покупателей принимают часы за современный гаджет.
Цифры: Стоимость ламповых часов с корпусом – от 7 до 20 тыс. руб. За последние три года проект Past Indicator продал около 2,5 тыс. часов.

Warranty, repair, replacement and refund
Warranty liability
We provide a two-year warranty for all our products (including Nixie Tubes), and extended five-year warranty for a line of products. Within this time in case there were detected a breakdown or any other defects, you may ask for a repair of a product or even for its replacement if necessary.
In case of replacement/refund if you make a claim in a period from fourteen to thirty days (that's policy of our company) from a purchasing, not counting the day of purchasing, we guarantee observance of consumer rights according to the Law of the Russian Federation "On the Protection of the Consumers'Rights".
Replacement and refund of a product of satisfactory quality
You have the right to replace goods of satisfactory quality for similar goods, if their form, size, style, color or complete equipment have not been suited you. You can claim for replacement within thirty days, not counting the day of purchasing, if product have not been used, also its vendibility and consumer properties have been retained. The absence of the cashier's receipt, or other document proving payment for the commodity, does not affect your rights on replacement.
With your consent, replacement of a product may be accomplished as soon as a similar product comes in for sale. If similar goods are absent in sales on a date of request, you have the right on demanding a full refund for a commodity.
If you demand a refund for a commodity it shall be satisfied within ten days from a date of such request.
Customized products are not subject to return. In case a buyer makes an advance payment for a customized product, a seller reserves the right not to repay the advance if a buyer cancels their order.
Repair, replacement and refund of a product of improper quality
In case of selling a product of improper quality we accept claims for a refund within thirty days from a date of purchasing. Also under your request we provide a replacement or repair of a product within all warranty period. In case of a dispute over cause of defects of a product, we will examine a product at our company's own expense. By your request, an expert's decision may be challenged legally.
Refund
A cost of a commodity will be refund the same way as it has been paid. For a refund, may be required the cashier's receipt or the digital receipt, ID document.
A procedure for a return of a product
You may return a product in person at the following address: Moscow (Russia), Design Center ARTPLAY, Nizhnyaya Syromyatnicheskaya Street, 10, building 9, 3rd floor, room 331. Also with a concurrence of our organization you may return a product by a courier/post.

Customized products are not subject to return. In case a buyer makes an advance payment for a customized product, a seller reserves the right not to repay the advance if a buyer cancels their order.
Repair, replacement and refund of a product of improper quality
In case of selling a product of improper quality we accept claims for a refund within thirty days from a date of purchasing. Also under your request we provide a replacement or repair of a product within all warranty period. In case of a dispute over cause of defects of a product, we will examine a product at our company's own expense. By your request, an expert's decision may be challenged legally.
Refund
A cost of a commodity will be refund the same way as it has been paid. For a refund, may be required the cashier's receipt or the digital receipt, ID document.
A procedure for a return of a product
You may return a product in person at the following address: Moscow (Russia), Design Center ARTPLAY, Nizhnyaya Syromyatnicheskaya Street, 10, building 9, 3rd floor, room 331. Also with a concurrence of our organization you may return a product by a courier/post.
Shipping
If you haven't received the clock during these periods, you can ask us to send you the order again or send you the full refund for it:
- 90 days for orders sent by Russian Post
- 60 days for orders sent by EMS Russian Post
- 20 days for orders sent by UPS
If you have received your order after this period and you have already got the refund or we sent you the order again and you have received it twice, you should send it us back (we will cover shipping costs in this case) or pay for it.
